Alice Faye tells her stories with the passion they deserve. On her forthcoming debut album ‘Vaudevillain’, she sits at the piano and personal experiences sometimes take on the scale of an entire performance. Joy and sorrow are given a touch of the theatrical, with rich arrangements and a voice that audibly seeks out the drama.Her piano-driven pop has much of the melodic richness of the 1970s. The influence of 1960s folk and country lends the songs a cosy feel, even when Faye really lets the music fly. She can then completely shift the mood with a softer vocal line, as if, after all the commotion, she wants to share one more thing in private.
